Faces of the LGBT Center: Andy Semler

Faces of the LGBT Center is a feature where we interview friends, members and volunteers of the Center to get the insiders' perspective.  If you want to be interviewed or want to nominate someone, you can email me at andy.teh.nerd@gmail.com.

Tell us a little about yourself, as much or as little as you want to share.

Andy Semler, genderqueer, late 20s, parent of 1st-grader, occupies South St Louis.  My personal blog.

What do you do at the LGBT Center?

I hang out at the front desk every Tuesday evening.  I also maintain the reference guide for LGBT resources in the local area.  Hopefully I'll be interviewing many of you for this blog!

How have the people at the LGBT Center influenced you?

I feel like I've found a home away from home.  The volunteers here are so inspiring with their dedication to helping the community and creating a safe space.

What are some things you enjoy doing outside of the LGBT Center?

I enjoy crocheting, watching lectures and debates online, and doing vegetable experiments which I share on my food blog.

Random fun question: Are you a good dancer?

Only when I've been drinking!  ;-)

Random fun question: What do your parents do?

Ride motorcycles - they're way more adventurous than I am.

Random fun question: Are you a gossip?

I take people's privacy seriously, especially around the center.  Plus, if people hear me bad-mouthing others, they won't be able to trust that I won't be bad-mouthing them next.  Knowing when to keep my mouth shut is a good way to keep friends.
